Lua Glider - posted in Other Third-Party Tools: Maybe Im missing something- but has every single post about Lua Glider been removed? (Ran into a similar problem Ive had in the past, and went to search for what the solution was- to find, it seems anyway, all those posts are gone). Alan, Thanks for taking the time to reply. My Dad is also 70 something, and I too hope to be flying my planes at that age. It's great to hear about someone else besides myself using the script. I hope your soaring goes well. On the Dist value, I put some thought into this. Not sure if you know, but you can get the distance value natively from the new telemetry. I will put in a screen shot with the settings.
It would be the exact same calculation I could perform so I thought it might be redundant. But now that you mention it, maybe not everyone knows you can. Look into setting up the GDist like I have below and lets keep evaluating if it's worth keeping my Dist field as output. I am using it right now to give me some feedback on the LD value that is displaying. If I am traveling long distances between samples I know that a higher LD value is correct as that's usually when I am booking it downwind. I originally wrote this to help me keep orientation of my glider as well.
I lost it once as some fog rolled in between me and the glider. Once it disappeared it was game over. My hope is that this could be used like you said to help you limp back to where you can at least reacquire a visual. Off topic, I know there are a lot of Telemetry scripts that have amazing heads up style displays. The reason I went with a model script is so that this could do the heavy lifting.
I am toying with a telemetry script that takes the data from this script and makes it all pretty. But even with a fairly decent set of eyes I still find looking down at the screen to be a distraction at times and wanted to make sure I was able to set up callouts like LD. The lua scripts can play wav files, but then you have it hard coded or the logic has to be in the script.
Happy flying and look forward to hearing how it went. Hi, I'm a long time Taranis user, can program as well, but new to Lua scripts etc. My apologies, this is very basic. I'm on OpenTx 2.1.7 and would like to first install the script to use as-is before making modifications. I understand that it could also be used on the simulator? It appears I am too newb to do even that.
The states that I should install the model script in the /SCRIPTS/(mymodel)/ folder on the SD card. My model name is 'Inside F5J' so I created a directory name 'Inside F5J' and copied the single file glider17.lua there.
I also tried to place another copy of the lua script in /SCRIPTS/MIXES/ but no avail. Also tried /SCRIPTS/Inside F5J/MIXES. I do not have any menu named 'CUSTOM SCRIPTS' on the Taranis or Companion, so I don't know how to activate the script. I tried to activate a special function 'ON' and 'Lua script' but I get an error stating that I do not have any scripts on the SD. By the way there is an inconsistency: on companion it's named 'Play script' while on the Taranis it's named 'Lua script'.
Thanks for helping.
